St. Luke's Episcopal Church

St. Luke's Episcopal Church

Aisle window, by Heaton Butler and Bayne of London, UK. These wonderful windows are some of the most beautiful I've seen. They are perfect eye-level along the aisle, and the detail is excellent. These are some of the best windows I've seen San Francisco, and a few hours spent with them reveals a real experience. They are a bit difficult to photograph, as they are small, and the camera tends to expose either for the darker colors thus washing out the heads and halos, or else exposed for the heads and dropping the richer colors into blacks (most of my pics are exposed for the lights) This shot managed to be a perfect exposure and captures a bit of the glowing jewel quality of the glass. But the darker areas in many of the shots are filled with glowing rich colors that need to be experienced in person to truly appreciate.
